The Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) became a UK National Centre for Ageing Sciences and Innovation in 2014. It has had 5 MRC Centres established or renewed since 2011.

In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) the Faculty achieved excellent results:

  • overall research quality across FMS is ranked 8th among UK Medical Schools
  • overall research quality of Newcastle’s Biological Sciences is ranked in the top 5 in the UK
  • Newcastle’s Clinical Medicine is ranked 4th overall for research intensity
  • Neuroscience, Psychiatry & Psychology at Newcastle is ranked in the top 5 for research impact

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

NTW is one of the largest mental health and disability Trusts in England. It employs more than 6,000 staff and serves a population of approximately 1.4 million.
